Hinckley take team honors in Leicestershire Hilly 29 mile time trial |

|
The calendar may have said it was Easter Monday, but the weather outside suggested spring was still far away for Hinckley CRC riders.
Downpours of rain, sleet, snow and hail had filled the weekend, driven horizontally across Leicestershire by the icy north wind. Definitely not the conditions you would associate with time trialing. Despite the weather, 4 Hinckley CRC riders headed East to the Leicestershire Hilly 29 mile time trial. The course takes riders in a loop from Queniborough, east through Tilton-on-the-hill, north to Little Dalby and returning via Burrough-on-the-Hill. With over 500 feet of climbing this is a testing course at the best of times, but a strong wind and cold temperatures made it very challenging. Top club De Rosa RT were favorites for overall places and the team prize and, true to form, favorite Matt Bottrill was quickest with a time of 1:10:04. But that was the extent of DeRosa’s success; second place was taken by an impressive ride by Hinckley’s Scott Walker (1:12:31). Walker’s early season form suggests he will be challenging for major honours this season. Walker’s team mate and close rival, Bill Harris also posted a great ride ( 1:15:53 ) to finish 7th. With Mick Wills 22 seconds behind in 9th place Hinckley CRC took the Team prize, beating some of the region’s top teams and fastest riders. Also from Hinckley CRC, new rider Richard Gamble finished in a very respectable time of 1:32:26 in his first time trial.
