After finishing equal top of the Leicestershire Time Trial series team competition last year, but missing out on the prize on a technicality, the Hinckley riders were keen to get this season off to a winning start.
The terrible weather of recent weeks continued for the first round of the series; the Coalville Wheelers 10. The strong gusty winds and rain on the Griffydam course making life difficult and dangerous. Bill Harris lead the way for HCRC finishing in a time of exactly 23 minutes. An impressive ride placing him 3rd overall behind top rider Geoff Platts ( De Rosa RT, 22:31) and second place rider Darren Buckby ( Go Sports Spex RT, 22:34 ). With Joe Murray not well enough to make the start line, it was up to others to fill the team places. Mick Wills battled his way into the top ten, finishing 9th overall with a time of 24 minutes 15 seconds, and Jason Evans counting as the 3rd team rider finishing 17th overall in a time of 25:21. With a total team time of 1:12:36 Hinckley took the team prize, and the 100 series points, by almost a minute from second place team Derby Mercury, with rivals Coalville Wheelers in 3rd. Also riding strongly in the cold conditions, Rob Jefford (26:22) and Richard Billington (26:46) recorded personal bests for the course, while new member Richard Gamble finished under the half-hour in a creditable 29:42 More details on http://www.HinckleyCRC.org |
