A very warm and relatively still day held much promise for the riders competing in the Coventry Road Club 10 mile time trial at Princethorpe on the K10 FT course. Unfortunately the race was eventful for the wrong reasons as local rider Andy Green (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) was involved in a road traffic accident within a mile of the finish.
Andy had joined the B4453 (the straight mile) from the A45 when he was hit by a car, the details of the accident are to be confirmed and are subject to a police investigation. An ambulance and police attended the scene and Andy was taken to Walsgrave hospital suffering from leg and other injuries. He is expected to be kept in hospital for one or two nights. Although a number of competitors had or were able to finish, the event was cancelled due to the danger caused by a build up of traffic after the accident and road was closed by the police. Andy was one of the seeded riders and likely to finish very highly in the field. Of those Hinckley CRC riders who finished, Martin Sharrocks recorded his second PB of the week with an excellent improvement to 25 02. Jason Evans dipped uner 23 minutes for 22 48, with Mick Murray posting a course best of 23 23 and Dave Cossey 23 49. Dave Tedds was delayed to post 24 21 with Mark Lee and Dael Sidwell (Lutterworth Centre Cycle) having to stop racing as the event was cancelled. Thoughts and best wishes go to Andy from his friends at Hinckley CRC. |
