Sunshine and blue skies greeted a healthy field of 42 riders for round 6 of the Hinckley CRC Tuesday Night 10 series. But once again, the shelter of the HQ in the Axe and Compass car park sheltered riders from the icy wind they would find whipping across the course.
One regular rider missing from the start sheet was Andy Green. Following a serious accident in the Coventry RC 10 on Saturday, Andy was still in hospital. The thoughts and wishes of every rider coming to the start line were with their friend. Despite the wind, several riders improved. New rider Yogesh Kholia returned an solid 36:28 for a first ride, and James Cooper continued to improve in his rookie season with a PB of 27:15. Regular guest rider Simeon Diaz (Leicester Forrest) also continued to improve and finished with a course PB of 26:43. Hinckley’s “international” rider Martin Sharrocks showed that his time in the Sunny USA has not been spent sitting on the Florida beaches as he smashed his Wolvey PB to finish in 13th place in 25:39. More improvements for riders in the top 10 as Marc Lee ( 9th, 24:36) and Andrew Fox ( 8th , 24:15 ) also scored course personal bests. Up at the top, it was between Bill Harris, Scott Walker and Ian Ball and once again Ball was the fastest. His course PB of 21:24 was only 5 seconds shy of Harris’ course record, and sets him firmly in top spot. Ball is the only person this season to have posted a “21” and once we get some calm weather, who knows how fast he will go! |
