A new multi-use games area, providing enhanced sports and recreation facilities at Wykin Community Park, will be opened later this month.
The £48,000 games area, which has been financed largely through a grant from the Big Lottery’s Children’s Play Programme fund, will provide facilities for basketball, 5-a-side football and cricket. The completion of the games area follows the successful opening of a new junior and toddler play area in December 2007 and forms part of the second stage of a project to renovate and upgrade the park. In addition to new play facilities, further site improvements are still taking place and include the provision of new paths, new signage and new park furniture. The existing allotment site will also be extended to provide an additional five allotment plots. All works will be completed by the end of 2008. The games area represents the first project to be completed from the £200,000 awarded to the Hinckley and Bosworth Play Partnership by the Big Lottery for a range of play improvements across the Borough. Councillor Wendy Moore, Executive Member responsible for Parks and Open Spaces said: “The Big Lottery funding will help to ensure that young people in this part of Hinckley can now access high quality play provision. This new facility will encourage more young people to take part in play and physical activities, and this has direct health benefits for children and young people.” |
