Neighbourhood Watch Week The week commencing Monday 16th June 2008 is Neighbourhood Watch Week across the country. Although there is ongoing work with Neighbourhood Watch across Earl Shilton and Barwell throughout the year we will take this opportunity to encourage residents to be part of a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. The main advantages are regular updates from the police about current crime trends, signs which act as a crime deterrent and closer community relations in your area. If anyone is interested in hearing more about NHW then please let me know. We will also be setting up 'No Cold Calling' Zone along with Neighbourhood Watch. 'No Cold Calling' zones prohibit salesperson knocking on your door without an invitation or appointment. This scheme helps to cut down on distraction burglaries- where the offender will pose as a salesperson to gain entry to your house and then steal from your house. Drop in session at Heathfield PC 4547 Julie Sperry and I have started a drop in session at Heathfield High School. Every Tuesday afternoon the students are able to speak to us about issues they would like to discuss or problems they are experiencing. The sessions have already been very successful and numerous students have been attending each session. We have leaflets that are distributed to the children regarding issues they might experience for example knife crime, antisocial behaviour and drugs. We are also planning to do activities during the summer holidays with some of the students. PCSO Rowe is backSome of you may remember PCSO 6619 Tiff Rowe who was part of the beat team several years ago. Tiff has rejoined the team and she can be contacted on 0116 2222222 and then enter her collar number when prompted 6619. Tiff will be taking the lead over ASB incidents, reassurance and targeting specific areas throughout the beat in an effort to reduce the concerns of the community. Damage to church wall Some of you may have seen the recent pictures in the Hinckley Times of graffiti on the church wall on Almeys Lane, Earl Shilton. Through the response of the community in contacting the police, arrests were made and one adult received a conditional caution for the damage caused. A conditional caution was used by the police to get the offender to apologise for the offence, have them pay to have the damage rectified and hopefully prevent the offender from re-offending. This is a means by which offenders can support the community and hopefully prevent re-offending. Hope you are all enjoying the better weather but please be mindful of leaving doors and windows open which allows easy access by burglaries! There is an increase in Burglaries each year because residents leave windows open where opportunist thieves can target them. These issues can be as much in the day as at night, therefore we are asking for residents to be mindful of their security. Contact can be made with the beat team to discuss security issues if required. |
