Detectives in Loughborough want to trace owners of stolen jewellery
Detectives in Loughborough are hoping to give burglary victims a New Years' present by reuniting them with their stolen jewellery.
Officers recovered a substantial amount of jewellery from a house in the Highfields area of Leicester on September 21, 2007 following a search of the premises.
A 32-year-old man from Leicester was later charged with four counts of burglary and is due to appear in court on Thursday January 17, 2008. He's currently remanded in custody.
Officers have managed to trace the owners of some of the jewellery but still have more than 200 items outstanding.
The jewellery is believed to have been stolen in burglaries that took place in the north of Leicestershire between May and September 2007. Anyone who was burgled during this period, and had jewellery taken, is asked to contact Detective Constable Simon Clarke to arrange a viewing.
DC Clarke said; "We are keen to get these pieces of jewellery back to their rightful owners. Some of the pieces are very distinctive so we are appealing to people to get in touch with us, particularly if they live in Charnwood or Loughborough area, because that is where we believe the majority of the offences took place.
"We can then check our systems and, if we believe the caller's jewellery could be part of this collection, we will invite them in to view the pieces.
"This case has highlighted just how important it is for people to photograph their jewellery and keep the pictures somewhere safe. Many people have jewellery boxes that are full of items, maybe given to them by a friend or relative, but they don't really know exactly what's in it. That makes it very hard for us to return items to their rightful owner if they are stolen. It can also make insurance claims more difficult.
"In this case, we have recovered some quite distinctive pieces including a gold man's Limit Majex watch which has an inscription on it. The inscription reads... ‘Presented to Mr J R PEARSON by Towl & Cursley Ltd in recognition of 21 years faithful service in December 1960'. Our efforts to trace the owner have been unsuccessful so if you think this might belong to you, or you know who the owner is please get in touch."
To contact DC 1613 Simon Clarke please call Leicester (0116) 222 2222 and leave a message by following the instructions and when prompted, enter the identification number 1613. Alternatively, people can email DC Clarke on
