The Borough Council has pledged its support to the biggest litter pick in history. Keep Britain Tidy’s National “Big Tidy Up” campaign will see an unprecedented month-long blitz on litter during September.
And the council is playing its part by helping community groups across the Borough to organise litter picks in their area. So far, tidy-ups have been arranged for Hinckley’s Clarendon Park, the Meadows in Burbage, the Tilton Road park in Burbage, Sheepy parish and part of Barwell, but more groups are still coming forward to volunteer their services. Councillor Sandra Francks, Executive Member Responsible for Business Development and Street Scene Services said: “It’s good to see residents getting together for the big tidy up. This is an example of people power, helping to make our Borough a cleaner more pleasant place to live”. The council will help volunteers to register online at www.thebigtidyup.org so that they can claim their FREE packs of tabards, posters, leaflets and bags. These are supplied by Keep Britain Tidy The council's Neighbourhood Wardens will also arrange for the collection and disposal of the bags of litter collected, as well as providing advice and assistance to residents who would like to take part. Anyone can take part - from individuals to schools, businesses and other community groups. For more information contact the Neighbourhood Wardens on 01455 238141. |
